The cantons of Zurich, Glarus, Schaffhausen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, St. Gallen, Graubünden, Thurgau and Ticino ("agreement cantons") form a joint supervisory region for the supervision of a) institutions for occupational pension schemes pursuant to Article 61 of the Federal Act of 25 June 1982 on occupational old-age, survivors' and disability benefits (BVG), b) classical foundations pursuant to Article 84 of the Swiss Civil Code of 10 December 1907 (ZGB), insofar as the agreement cantons have transferred this task to the institution. The institution a) fulfills the tasks transferred to the cantons under federal legislation on occupational old-age, survivors' and disability benefits, b) assumes the tasks in the field of classical foundations, insofar as the agreement cantons have transferred these tasks to it pursuant to Article 35 IVBSA. The agreement cantons may transfer further tasks in the field of classical foundations to the institution, in particular the functions as cantonal authority pursuant to Articles 85, 86, 86a and 88 ZGB and the handling of legal remedies.
