The purpose of the association is to maintain and promote the quality of European Veterinary Specialists in Veterinary Surgery in all European countries at the highest possible level. The association is a non-profit organization and does not pursue any commercial interests. The main goal of the association is to promote health-oriented management of pig production by veterinarians in Europe and to increase the competence of those active in this field through: a) Establishing guidelines and standards for education and experience in the context of postgraduate education, which is a prerequisite for specialization in pig health. b) Examining and certifying veterinarians as specialists in the field of herd health management in pigs, in order to promote the health and well-being of animals, the economic outcome of farms, the production of safe quality products for consumers, and sustainable animal production by providing professional care for pigs. c) Promoting research and other contributions to the science and practice of herd health management in pigs, including husbandry, reproductive management at the herd level, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy, prevention, and control of diseases affecting pigs directly or indirectly, as well as maintaining healthy and productive pig herds. Pig health management also includes the impact on the quality and safety of pig meat products and particularly considers herd health and production, production systems and goals, and pig population management. d) Promoting communication and dissemination of knowledge related to the above-mentioned points.
