The foundation aims to promote the research, development and preservation of the biological, social and ethically-cultural foundations of crop plants within the framework of a long-term, ecologically-oriented agriculture. To achieve this purpose, the foundation can support, promote or implement measures and projects, in particular: research into new breeding methods (breeding research and basic research); applied breeding of varieties for ecologically sustainable agriculture; conservation, expansion and sustainable use of crop plant diversity; research into food and medicinal plant quality; education and training in the fields of breeding and the basics of ecologically sustainable agriculture and nutrition; public relations and publications. The foundation can take on coordinating tasks with other private and public institutions that pursue similar purposes in the areas of human, environment and health. It can also assume fiduciary management of supported and support-worthy projects. The foundation is non-profit. It does not pursue commercial purposes and does not strive for profit. To achieve its goals, the foundation is authorized to operate domestically and abroad. Furthermore, it can establish or participate in other non-profit institutions within the scope of its purpose.
