The primary purpose of the foundation is to provide direct or indirect support to scientific projects and publications of all kinds, particularly in the field of medical research (basic research and clinical research, especially in the area of diseases that have been little researched or cannot be successfully combated, as well as in the area of lifelong health preservation) and the humanities (especially language and literature, classical philology, ancient studies, and Celtic studies). The secondary purpose is to provide direct and indirect support and promotion to institutions, private individuals, and projects in the cultural field, especially but not exclusively in the areas of music, theater, art, architecture, film, and photography, as well as in the area of training and promoting young artists. The tertiary purpose is humanitarian aid and self-help. In particular, the foundation provides direct or indirect assistance in the area of disaster relief and pursues direct or indirect support for organizations, institutions, and projects in the areas of poverty reduction, medical care, and care for the elderly and disabled. This also includes support for organizations and institutions that offer services of all kinds for people of all ages with special needs and their families, such as, but not limited to, assisted living and working, day structures, vacation spots, workshops, courses, as well as the associated sensitization and awareness-raising/inclusion work in the public sphere. The foundation's activities are not limited to the territory of the Swiss Confederation and are free from any denominational or political orientation. The foundation's supervision shall be entrusted to the federal government. The foundation may use its income and capital within the scope of its purpose. The foundation does not pursue any commercial or self-help purposes.
