The association aims to establish and operate an organization that provides the necessary personnel and technical resources after an earthquake to assess damaged buildings and estimate the expected reconstruction or repair costs. All buildings of private individuals, companies and organizations, municipalities, cities and cantons are assessed. Excluded are federal and military buildings and all infrastructure facilities such as roads, railways, and supply and disposal facilities outside of buildings (electricity, water supply, sewage, etc.). The earthquake damage organization provides the cantons with building data and IT infrastructure needed to assess the habitability of buildings after an earthquake. In addition, it provides an organization that, after an earthquake, creates estimates of the cost of rebuilding damaged buildings based on building data and with the involvement of experts. These estimates form the basis for possible requests for assistance from the cantons to the federal government for rapid financial reconstruction aid and for the determination of compensation by insurance companies.
