The foundation is non-profit and does not pursue any commercial purpose. Its goal is to pass on the intellectual and scientific legacy of Pierre Bourdieu and to coordinate the international network of scholars who have joined or are close to his critical thinking. The foundation pursues the following purpose in particular: to pass on the intellectual and scientific legacy of Pierre Bourdieu, whose comprehensive and internationally recognized work expresses his program to bring together European social sciences by abolishing national, disciplinary, and paradigmatic boundaries; to overcome linguistic boundaries and historical closures through national educational traditions in European social sciences; to promote the dismantling of artificial boundaries between different scientific disciplines (and individual fields within disciplines) in order to fully utilize the positive effects of interdisciplinary research; to contribute to the unity and mutual integration of different theoretical traditions of social and human sciences and to demonstrate the heuristic benefits arising from this; to bring together international scholars, intellectuals, and artists within an organized network (Réseau LIBER) who want to contribute to the development of an international forum for critical discussion, in order to contribute to the development of an international space for scientific research and discussion; to support and disseminate public statements by network members, thereby contributing to the formation of an international space for political and cultural debates and to the solidarity-based resistance against the neoliberal policy of marketing scientific and intellectual goods; to coordinate various scientific and cultural projects, in particular the research program 'For a European Space of Social Sciences', through the establishment of a network center with secretarial services.
