The foundation aims to promote democracy and human rights in the field of education. The purpose of the foundation is achieved in particular by promoting understanding of democracy and human rights among children and young people, supporting civil society in promoting democracy and human rights in the field of education, promoting democracy as a way of life, promoting the practice of democratic values among children and young people, promoting democratic opinion-forming and decision-making processes among children and young people, promoting democracy in schools and training institutions, promoting democratic schools and training institutions, and promoting exchange between institutions of democratic education in Europe. The foundation has no commercial purpose and does not aim to make a profit. The foundation can support like-minded endeavors and collaborate with corresponding organizations in a suitable manner. It is primarily active in the Basel region, but can also provide support in Switzerland and abroad. The foundation fulfills its purpose on a non-profit basis, independently of existing organizations, structures, and enterprises. It is politically and denominationally neutral. The foundation's funds are used exclusively and irrevocably for the above purposes.
